By now, my regular readers know that I'm always on the lookout for environmentally friendly products that also help to save money and I have found a true winner at Aquasana.
I installed the Aquasana Shower Filter in minutes and was instantly impressed by the shower pressure - most filters or low flow shower heads usually decrease water pressure quite a bit but not the Aquasana Shower Filter! The superior upflow design prevents any loss of shower pressure which means you rinse clean and get a full hot shower everytime!
Why a shower filter? Anyone who has ever swam in a chlorinated pool knows how chlorine robs moisture from skin and hair. What most people don't realize is that there is typically as much, or more, chlorine in your tap water as in most pools. The Aquasana Shower Filter uses an innovative dual-filter process. Stage 1 reduces chlorine and enhances pH balance with a natural copper/zinc mineral media called KDF-55D. Stage 2 uses a carbonized coconut shell media for the reduction of synthetic chemicals and VOCs. Your shower water will feel better, and be better for you. Aquasana promises great benefits for asthma and allergy sufferers due to the reduction of harmful chlorine vapors.
By reducing chlorine and other chemicals found in tap water, you eliminate health risks related to inhalation and skin absorption of these chemicals. Such inhalation and/or skin absorption is known to be a significant source of exposure to harmful VOCs and a leading cause of asthma and other respiratory problems.
I've been using the Aquasana Shower Filter for about 3 weeks now and my hair and skin are so much softer than before! I feel like I'm showering in natural spring water and am using less conditioner and lotion than before! Also I got my water bill yesterday and it has decreased considerably!!! What an amazing product!
And now thanks to the wonderful folks at Aquasana you too can win your very own Aquasana Shower Filter (an $84.99 Value)!!

«Oldest ‹Older 1 – 200 of 239 Newer› Newest»Here's to your first comment! One fact I didn't know before is that cancer risk among people drinking chlorinated water is 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine. That's scary to think about because my in laws water is chlorinated and she's been suffering from some unknown things for awhile. I wish they could get a different water supply so they could increase their health benefits. Thanks Dianne!
I didn't know you could get lead poisoning from water contamination.
Blogged Ya HERE
Button is on my blog.
Your button is on my blog now towards the bottom.:)
I did not realize that traces of prescription and over the counter meds are being found in our drinking water This is not good
A real health risk for people with allergies to meds and in the long run cannot be good for our bodies! If home filtration will eliminate these products then thats the way to go
I didn't know about the links between chlorine and breast cancer.
I blogged about it at:
http://flutemom.blogspot.com/2008/08/eco-friendly-giveaways.html
I'm surprised that so many contaminants get through the Brita filters. That's what we've always used. Maybe it's time to reconsider.
Chlorine causes cancer?? Oh no!
Sign me up to win a cancer-free shower!
onlycancan at hotmail dot com
Thanks for this great giveaway!
I didn't know that exposure to chloring can cause damage to the lung tissue similar to that of a heavy smoker's. That's very scary, as I was on the swim team at my pool as a youngster. UGH!
I had no idea that city water testing was so limited.
Thanks!
Yuck! Only 86 of the 75,000 toxic chemicals used in our society are required to be tested for. Scary!
I did not realize that about 10% of the water we drink has been drunk before! YUCK!!
Here in Florida, we have TERRIBLE water. You can actually smell the chlorine in it! No wonder my skin and hair are so DRY! This Aquasana Shower Filter would be perfect for our home!!
Thanks for a GREAT giveaway!!
I was happy to learn about the American Water Works Association's website, where we can go to learn about what contaminants are known to be in local water supplies. I'm almost afraid to find out what's been detected in my area. Email: jennae@greenyourdecor.com
I've unfortunately known more about water than I've ever wanted to thanks to environmental engineering courses, but a new fact to me was that "U.S. drinking water contains more than 2100 toxic chemicals that can cause cancer." I wasn't aware there were that many that caused cancer! jeepcutie82 at msn dot com
I didn't realize the cancer risk before treatment was so high "In the early 1900s‚ before chlorine‚ pesticides‚ herbicides and the tens of thousands of other chemicals we are exposed to every day were in existence‚ the average American possessed a 1 in 50 chance of getting cancer; today 1 in 3 Americans can expect to get cancer during their lifetime‚ including 1 in every 2 males. "
It is not a very pleasant thought, but, on average, about 10% of the water we drink has been drunk before.
EWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GROSS! the man at the BMV drank my water before me? BLACH!
http://kagey10.blogspot.com/
whala a la a new button!
I wasn't aware that our public water treatment plants are not designed to remove drugs and other synthetic chemicals from our water. Disgusting!
I knew that the more I shower/bathe the drier my skin is - I didn't realize that was the chlorine, not the water!
I didn't know Chlorine is a strong oxidant that causes damage to skin and hair even at very low levels
While I thought that only 86 of the 75,000 toxic chemicals are actually tested was awful, it was even worse to read that caffeine, antibiotics, anti-depressants, and birth control drugs have been found in our water. I use that to make my son's bottles!

Thanks for the giveaway. It's the first time I ever read about a cancer link between breast cancer and chlorine.
I was not aware of the links between clorine and Breast cancer and I am a breast cancer survivor
The cancer risk definitely freaks me out - especially since that disease runs in my family and I try to do things to avoid it! Scary.
I didn't know that chlorine had a link to breast cancer.
I am astonished about the prescription drugs in water. That's crazy!
I didn't know about the links between chlorine and breast cancer. That was news to me.
wow. wow. wow. i never knew there was such a high link of chlorine to cancer. scary!!!
I had no idea that lead was in tap water.
cmartin0055(at)aol(dot)com
if you have acidic well water and copper pipes it will turn your hair GREEN!!
I did not know you can contact the American Water Works Assoc. for information re: your city's water.
gkstratos@yahoo.com
A shower filter makes so much sense!
I had no clue that the chlorine fumes in water could damage lungs as bad a smoking!
What a great idea...very good for young children!
I didn't know that showering and bathing in chlorinated tap water robs skin and hair of their natural protective oils, causing scaling and itching.
The amount of prescription drug and OTC in my water is really scary.
hetz-junk(at)hotmail(dot)com
I had no idea that caffeine and drugs are in our water systems. That is REALLY scary.

I also didn't know that there is a link between chlorine and breast cancer, that's really sad.

I have never heard this one before "Cancer risk among people drinking chlorinated water is 93% higher". i am amazed at that one!
I didn't know that about 10% of the water we drink has been drunk before! That is astounding! Thanks for opening my eyes!!

Ack!!! Caffeine, antibiotics, anti-depressants, and birth control drugs have all been found in our water.
I don't think I'll ever shower again unless I win this. :) :) :)
Thank you for the great giveaway!

I didn't know about the links between chlorine and breast cancer.
I did not know that chlorine in the water could cause breast cancer. The website was a scary eyeopener. I have a 7 year old and am due with our second one in 2 weeks and I am determined to do something about this.
Would love to win the filter of course!
Thank you!

I thought the link between chlorine and asthma was interesting. "chloramines and Trihalomethanes (THMs) have long been known to be agitators of asthma and its symptoms, studies have now proven that these harmful chemicals may actually cause asthma in previously healthy individuals".
Thanks!
breast cancer and chlorine? who knew?!
I had no idea city testing for water is so limited.

"we now find that caffeine and many prescription drugs are being detected in our public and private water systems. "
This is terrifying & disgusting!!!!
Thank you for the giveaway & for passing along the info on this producT!
"in these 29 cities‚ 45‚000 infants drank formula mixed with tap water containing weed killers and that "over half of these infants were swallowing 4 to 9 chemicals in every bottle!"
That is just frightening.
didn't know about the lead either in the water eww

I didn't know that (as their site claims, anyway) even though the carcinogen levels in water are low, they're enough to cause cancer.
Actually, that's something I'm going to read up on right now.

Interesting note about the link between Chlorine and Asthma. I guess I got out pretty well because I was on the swim team throughout High School and pretty much swam all over the place as a kid. Those pools definitely had Chlorine.
Thanks for the opportunity to win.
meds i water-yuck-who knows what we are doing to ourselves
I am bothered to learn that caffeine and many prescription drugs are being detected in our public and private water systems. That is frightening.
I am shocked to hear that there is just as much chlorine in our water as in the pool. That's crazy. I have excema and I always joke about being allergic to water because if I don't dry off I break out a little. This explains a lot.

drugs in water
I didn't know that traces of prescription and over the counter medicines are being found in our drinking water. That is amazing!
Filtration doesn't remove everything - prescription medication residue can be there. In our city, it's all river water and there are allowable amounts of fecal matter in our water.
Uh....yeah!
I read about a cancer link between breast cancer and chlorine.
I didn't know that there was a connection between chlorine & asthma.
Didn't realize my Brita filter wasn't doing such a hot job.
I didn't know that showering and bathing in chlorinated tap water robs skin and hair of their natural protective oils, causing scaling and itching. minute11@gmail.com
Showering and bathing in chlorinated tap water robs skin and hair of their natural protective oils, causing scaling and itching. Chlorine is a strong oxidant that causes damage to skin and hair even at very low levels. Most tap water maintains a residual chlorine level greater than is recommended for swimming pools, 1.5 ppm.
I didn't know about the cancer chlorine link. Makes me worrry about 18 years as a swimmer.
didn't know that traces of prescription and over the counter medicines are being found in our drinking water
That our tap water actually has a healthy supply of fluoride which is good for those teeth
I didn't know that the amount of chlorine in the water robbed my hair of moisture! damn the water!
I didnt know the chlorine in the water took moisture from my hair.
wizzythang16@sbcglobal.net
I did not know about links between chlorine and breast cancer... Scary
i had no idea chlorinated water put you at a higher risk of cancer. Eek!
I was totally unaware of the dangers of chlorinated water - especially links to cancer.
I didn't realize there was a cancer risk with chlorine. I was just about to buy one of these for my son because he has eczema and I was hoping the filter would help. I hope I win this instead!
I wasn't aware of all the drugs that are in our drinking water. I remember it being all over the news a little while ago, but I didn't know the extent of it!
I didn't know that there is as much chlorine in drinking water as in a pool.
I didn't realize that chlorine in regular tap water can cause skin disorders like chronic dryness. I have the dryest skin ever and I never thought about the correlation to the water I shower in! Thanks for the great contest!
I didn't know that 10% of the water that we drink has been drunk before -- kinda nasty!!
autumn398 (at) yahoo.com
There was an article about how most tap water in the US has traces of heart drugs. We use to be told to dump our left over drugs into the toilet. Very scary!
I didn't realiz that "Most tap water maintains a residual chlorine level greater than is recommended for swimming pools, 1.5 ppm."
cancer risk increases from water? yikes.
There's a link between Chlorine and Asthma! I am so shocked.
I did not know that Chlorine also kills much of the beneficial bacteria on the surface of the skin that offer a natural defense against skin disorders.
Thank you!
janetfaye (at) gmail (dot) com
I wasn't aware that chlorine vapors could cause asthma problems. Thanks for the chance to win.
I didn't realize all of the Health Effects and concerns we should have regarding our water. The fact that the use of man-made chemicals has become so extreme that we can now find traces of these low level SOCs (synthetic organic chemicals) in virtually every public water supply around the world. In every water supply that is alarming.

45‚000 infants drank formula mixed with tap water containing weed killers and that "over half of these infants were swallowing 4 to 9 chemicals in every bottle

thanks for the contest
Yikes...I didn't know chlorine was linked to cancer and heart disease. Scary stuff.
sanna1999 at verizon . net
I lost my mom to breast cancer when she was 38. I have read a lot about breast cancer and I have never heard that chlorine has been linked.
I didn't know that there is typically as much, or more, chlorine in your tap water as in most pools. Great giveaway, Thanks!
Thank you for the information...
That my daughter's eczema could be aggravated by the content of our water.

I didn't know that my filter isn't doing the job.
I did not know that chlorine in the water was so bad for eczama, it makes sense, it is just not something I have ever thought about. Eczama is a bad problem in our family, my cousin is dealing with her infant that has this very bad, I will have to let her know what I found out. Thank you for the awareness!
Heres a fact that I had no idea on --Showering and bathing in chlorinated tap water robs skin and hair of their natural protective oils, causing scaling and itching
Boy do I need this filter because I have dry itchy skin and its probably because of our water
Whoa, there are way too many chemicals in our water!
Geez, no wonder my husband was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma (Leukemia) a few years back! I knew tap water wasn't good to drink, so we drink bottled water only, but I never thought about what could be happening in my shower! I learned thta US drinking water contains more than 2100 toxic chemicals that can cause cancer (I knew that chlorine is a strong oxident that causes damage to hair and skin) but I never knew it has been linked to breast cancer! OMG! Thanks for all the wonderful, useful information. I NEED this water filtration system!!
maggie@mannwieler.com
Reduces chlorine and harmful VOCs and enhances pH balance. Aquasana promises great benefits for asthma and allergy sufferers due to the reduction of harmful chlorine vapors.
I did not know about how you can get lead poisoning from water contamination.
i was surprised about the lead poisoning.
I didnt realize that there was so much cholrine in shower water. more than in a pool is shocking. Thank you for having this.
I didn't know that chlorine vapors were an asthma trigger.
I didn't know skin disorders were affected by the water contents. Plus, I am dissatisfied with our current low flow shower head.
I didnt know that meds where being found in the drinking water. I did know that the chlorine content was too high because you can taste it and smell it.

chlorine can cause cancer?!!
buttons on my side bar!

Low levels of antibiotics in our drinking water, because our public water treatment plants are not designed to remove drugs and other synthetic chemicals from our water.
All I can say is WOW..Just WOW!!!!
If I don't win this shower filter, I think I will defiantly be buying one. Thanks for this contest and opening my eyes to whats all in our water supply!
I certainly didn't know that having a chlorinated water system can lead to asthma. Apparently the water leads to formation of
chloroform gas "from showering, washing dishes, washing clothes, and flushing toilets with chlorinated water." Wow!
something i didnt know about water that I now know is that there is typically as much, or more, chlorine in your tap water as in most pools.

I never knew that all the chlorine in water could cause cancer!
As a breast cancer survivor, I found that "U.S. drinking water contains more than 2100 toxic chemicals that can cause cancer" to be quite unsettling.
I was shocked to read that many contaminants get through the Brita filters.
Reading this under water facts was really an eye opener: Simply stated chlorine is a pesticide, as defined by the U.S. EPA, whose sole purpose is to kill living organisms.
I wonder why on Earth do we use something, drink something that can KILL us? I have city water and refuse to drink tap water, it just tastes and smells nasty. Hubby has been complaining of hair loss for awhile, basically since he came to the US from Guatemala (where water is NOT chlorinated) and since he's been bathing in city water, his hair has been steadily falling out. Now some of it may be genetics and all, but he's been telling me this a long time now and after reading this, I believe him.

I understand the idea behind it but never thought about it!
I didn't know that chlorine also kills much of the beneficial bacteria on the surface of the skin that offer a natural defense against skin disorders.
Chlorine causes cancer, that's all news to me. I'm glad wer're using well water.
I was surprised to learn that
"Chlorine, when combined with organic substances (such as skin particles, hair follicles, water-borne bacteria, and even sweat and urine), forms THMs."
I thought asthma was only externally caused by airborne allergens other preexisting conditions. I never would have thought that it was the chlorine that was causing the Olympic swimmers to develop asthma.
Didn't know about prescription drugs
Hi...link between chlorine and breast cancer...did not know this...thanks for info and great contest.
Also...your button is on my blog at

thanks for extra entry!
I have known that chlorine was in our water for our dental health....but I'm SHOCKED at what it has the abilility to do to people!
I had NO idea re the rates of cancer in people who drink chlorinated water. I think I'm in a bit of shock actually.
Also shocking, but not unexpected honestly, is the findings of prescription meds in water.
We've been being told to drink tap water because the bottles from bottled water last forever in the land fill.......now I'm really torn.
Something definitely needs to change! I feel kind of ill now.
but, I would love to win this product so at least myself and my family could shower in much healthier water.
Thanks

I didn't know about the links between chlorine and breast cancer
I didn't know that there is chlorine in my drinking water nor that it can cause cancer!
I didn't know it was important to clean the shower water
Chlorine is basically a pesticide.. we use it because it is the cheapest..
Most tap water maintains a residual chlorine level greater than is recommended for swimming pools, 1.5 ppm.
How bad chlorine is for you
I didn't know that chlorine robs so much moisture from skin and hair.
I actually had no idea that there was more chlorine in my shower water than in a swimming pool. It totally doesn't feel that way, but no wonder my hair is always a wreck.
This is scary "caffeine and many prescription drugs are being detected in our public and private water systems."
Thanks!

I did not realize that the accumulation of chlorine compounds in breast tissue contributed to breast cancer.
I have extremely sensitive skin and have been advised by several dermatologist to buy a filter such as this for my skin. But have just not been able to as yet.
So I could desperately use this product.
Thank you so much for offering this wonderful giveaway.
I would LOVE to win !!
I didn't know that lead is the most common contaminant found in tap water after chlorine. Yikes! Thanks for the useful giveaway.

I basically didn't know any of those water facts before reading that website, but I didn't know that chlorine-related cancer existed, much less that you were 93% more likely to get it from drinking chlorine water than if you didn't.

The basic cause of atherosclerosis and resulting entities such as heart attacks and stroke, is chlorine. The fact that chlorine is in our drinking water is frightening. I had no idea it caused all these problems.

I had no idea medicine, chlorine was in my water. I thought it smelled string sometimes but my hubby said I just have to sensitive a nose. Now I know why my skin is always dry.
Never heard about the connection between chlorine and asthma
Caffeine and prescription drugs are in our drinking water. Wow how naive I am. I thought it was all filtered out and clean by the time we got it.
How fitting that my word verification is "opduh".
"Wow!" Our shower needs this Shower Filter. I read that showering and bathing in chlorinated water robs skin and hair of their natural oils. This causes scaling and itching. Please enter me in your drawing. Many thanks, Cindi

I'm surprised that so many contaminants get through the Brita filters. Wow
According to the U.S. Council Of Environmental Quality, "Cancer risk among people drinking chlorinated water is 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine." WOW! I didn't know that!
Okay it totally grosses me out that some of the water we drink has been drank before. Umm ewww. Some things I think I am better off not knowing.
That city water testing is so limited and i drink it alot.
I didn't know that about 10% of the water we drink has been drunk before!
I didn't know that there is as much chlorine in drinking water as in a pool.
I did not know the chlorine vapors could make allergies worse. This would explain why my allergies act up in the shower! We live about 2 miles from Lake Ontario and our water is very chlorinated.
Wow, my son has ashtma, and I have bad allergies, and reading the water facts related to those areas is just down right scary.
Also I learnt that only 86 of the 75,000 toxic chemicals used in our society are required to be tested for during water testing through our cities.

I did not know that "Researchers from the U.S. EPA and the National Geological Survey have now found traces of antibiotics, birth control drugs, anti-depressants, and even caffeine in many water samples taken across the country." This is horrifying! My husband and son have very serious allergies to many medications and to think they could drink something that could trigger an allergic reaction is very scary. I realize that the possibility is very small, but just the thought sends chills down my spine!
